Gregory Calixte, a 6-foot-9 senior post player from Mount Vernon High School and the NY Rens AAU program, verbally pledged to George Mason on Wednesday.
Calixte also considered St. Bonaventure, and visited Quinnipiac and UAB in the fall.
“He’s fantastic young man who will be an asset to his college,” Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino said. “He’s a hard worker and extremely loyal.”
Said Rens coach Dwayne Murray: “He’s a true 6-9, college-ready body. He has good timing on the blocks, is an effective passer out of the post, has very good pivots in the post and is extremely coachable.
“His offensive abilities will increase in the college ranks.”
With his commitment and that of guard Noah Morgan on Tuesday to FDU, the Rens now have seven Division 1 commits in 2017: Hamidou Diallo (Kentucky), Jordan Nwora (Louisville), Jose Alvarado (Georgia Tech), Samson George (Iona), Jake Klores (Columbia), Morgan and Calixte. Jordan Tucker remains uncommitted.
