WHAT’S AT STAKE
I’m going to combine this section today as both teams are in similar positions in that they each face their first real test of the young season. For Ed Cooley this is the one real hurdle between going into Morgantown in December at 8-0 or 7-1. Freshman Thomas Sorber has gotten off to a tremendous start and a strong performance against a power opponent would be a fantastic sign for the Hoyas prospects this season. Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsbury has put together a tougher schedule – with a trip to the Players First Tournament in Las Vegas later this month – so leveling this series with the Hoyas would be a lift. Sophomore Markus Burton is off to another good start although his 3-point shooting is still an area that could improve. Again, this is very simple. Both teams need this win.
LAST MEETING
Georgetown went into South Bend last year and secured it’s best win of the season by outlasting Notre Dame in OT without Jayden Epps (illness). Drew Fielder and Rowan Brumbaugh (now at Tulane) had great performances in what was probably the highlight of the 23-24 campaign. The Hoyas went 2-19 the rest of the way with both wins coming in close calls against DePaul.
