Class of 2023 four-star combo guard Marvel Allen has committed to Georgetown, per his Instagram page. This comes just a day after releasing a top six schools list featuring Georgetown, Michigan, Kansas, Texas A&M, LSU and Arizona State.
Allen, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard from Montverde Academy (FL) and The Skill Factory AAU program is just the second top-50 ranked player to commit to Georgetown since Patrick Ewing took over as head coach in 2017. Allen is the first commitment for the Hoyas in the class of 2023. He explained his decision to commit to Georgetown on Instagram.
“I’ve realized how important relationships are and trust,” Allen said. “I’ve decided to commit to Georgetown because of my relationships with coach [Patrick] Ewing and [Kevin] Nickelberry and them being there for me when things got tough.”
When releasing his top six schools yesterday, Allen told ZAGSBLOG.com that Ewing has played at the highest level and knows what it takes to get there. Allen’s ultimate goal is to become an NBA player. The guard also said that Georgetown had been calling him every day to check in and they showed up to all of his AAU sessions.
Allen is ranked the No. 6 combo guard and No. 27 overall player in the class of 2023 by 247Sports.
In his most recent action at NIKE EYBL Kansas City, Allen posted 9.2 points, 3.3 points and 3.0 per game over six contests. He also shot 26.5% from the field.
Allen will next play at Peach Jam, starting July 18.
