With five in double digits, it was all smiles down the stretch
Your Georgetown Hoyas (6-1) put on another solid display of defense and balanced scoring against the UAlbany Great Danes (5-3). Behind a stellar performance from Micah Peavy, who scored 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting, Georgetown overwhelmed UAlbany 100-68 on both sides of the floor with 58 points-in-the-paint, 28 points off turnovers, 12 steals, 37 fastbreak points, and 6 dunks.

UAlbany may not have been the perfect measuring stick, but Georgetown fans have too often seen struggles to put away early season opponents of their caliber. In fact, there was a bit of concern in the first half when the Hoyas put the Great Danes on the line 18 times without a miss, bailing UAlbany out for their 7-24 (29.2%) shooting from the field. Georgetown finished the first half on a 12-2 run and never looked back.
A 15-4 run in the middle of the second provided the cushion for the Hoyas to have some fun and throw up some alley-oop lobs to one another while still practicing some good defensive pressure and transition opportunities.

I’m grateful for the Hoya Faithful who came out today to support our squad in a battle against a well-coached UAlbany team. We have a quick turnaround before facing UMBC on Monday. We need as many fans in the building as we get another opportunity to play in front of Hoya Nation!

Georgetown pours it on Albany in its best offensive game in years | WaPo
“We weren’t being disciplined in the first half,” Peavy said. “Going into halftime, that’s all we talked about — just to stay disciplined and play our defense.”
The Hoyas arguably should have been up more than 14 after shooting 61.8 percent in the first half, but they quickly rectified the situation. Sorber and Fielder combined for 11 of Georgetown’s first 15 points after the break, and the Hoyas unleashed a 19-2 run to bust open a 74-42 lead. At one point, they made 11 consecutive field goal attempts.
Georgetown outscored Albany 58-22 in the paint.
“We were just trying to push the ball and get it inside because that’s where U-Albany was weak at,” Sorber said. “We just tried to punish the paint, and once they started coming down in the paint, we kicked it out to our shooters. Whatever was there, we just tried to read it and make it happen.”
Georgetown extended its lead to 40 — its largest in two seasons under Cooley — when Peavy connected on a three-pointer to make it 86-46 with 10:09 left.
Georgetown coasts to fourth straight win with domination of Albany | FLM
In the opening minutes, Peavy tallied half of the points in a 12-0 run, but Albany weathered it by going on its own 10-2 sprint, with Briggs supplying the final six points to put the Great Danes up 19-16.
Georgetown answered in kind, reeling off 13 straight points. Sorber started the rush with a three-point play and he closed it with a perimeter 3 as the Hoyas took a 29-19 lead.
Late in the half, Peavy drained 3-pointers to start and finish a 10-point spree, which gave the Hoyas a 14-point lead on their way to a 49-35 advantage at the break.

Big East’s Georgetown rolls past UAlbany men’s basketball | Times Union
In losing its second consecutive game after winning five in a row, UAlbany was blown out by the Hoyas of the Big East Conference after halftime. Georgetown led 49-35 at the break, then quickly ballooned its lead with a 15-0 run that was part of the Hoyas scoring 37 of the second half’s first 48 points.
As Georgetown cranked up the pressure on its America East Conference opponent, Killings said the Great Danes “unraveled” on their way to the program’s most-lopsided loss since a 93-55 defeat against Providence in 2022. Now in his second season as Georgetown’s coach, Ed Cooley was also the coach of the Providence team that dominated UAlbany two seasons ago.
Press Release from GUHoyas:
Behind Five in Double Figures, Hoyas Roll to 100-68 Win Over UAlbany
WASHINGTON – Behind five in double figures, the Georgetown University men’s basketball team defeated the UAlbany Great Danes 100-68 on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. Micah Peavy led Georgetown with 24 points on 9-for-14 shooting en route to GU’s sixth victory of the season. With the win, the Blue & Gray improves to 6-1 while the Great Danes slide to 5-3 on the season.
ON THE RECORD
“I thought it was a hard-fought battle. I know that UAlbany is going to be a very competitive team in their league. I thought Micah Peavy in particular proved himself again as a veteran. I thought he dominated the game from start to finish until we took him out with about eight minutes to play. That’s what veterans do and he’s been in a lot of basketball games. I? thought we shared the ball and that we were getting in front of the rim. It was another game where we were just trying to stack improvement. I thought we had good balance all the way around, inside and out, but I was really impressed by how we shared the ball. We’ve got a really quick turnaround as we get back to playing here on Monday.” – Head Coach Ed Cooley
“I feel like that’s just Coach Cooley trusting me and putting the ball in my hands to make some decisions. It’s not just me, it’s a collective and I really appreciate my teammates.” – Micah Peavy on his leadership on the floor
“Coming into halftime, we talked about being composed and not getting into any more foul trouble. That’s what we’re able to do heading into the second half and we were able to stop them.” – Thomas Sorber

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAlbany got off to a hot start, draining a 3-pointer followed by a bucket to jump to a quick 5-0 lead. The Hoyas reeled off 12 unanswered fueled by six from Peavy, four from Epps and a layup from Sorber to take the 12-5 advantage with 15:07 on the clock.
- An 11-2 run from the visitors gave the Great Danes the 16-14 advantage but a 10-3 run sparked by the first five from Sorber and capped by a Caleb Williams layup forced the UAlbany timeout as the Blue & Gray took the 24-19 lead (8:17).
- Georgetown extended the lead to as many as 11 (37-26, 4:30), but continued trips to the charity stripe kept UAlbany in the game and seven-straight from the Great Danes, including five from the free throw line, pulled the visiting team within four. A Peavy trey sparked a 12-2 run that included a pair of buckets from Curtis Williams Jr as the Blue & Gray took a 49-35 lead into the locker room.
