As Providence has been preparing for its first round NCAA Tournament game against Kentucky, its head coach Ed Cooley has been the subject of job rumors.
Cooley has been linked to the Georgetown opening since the Hoyas fired Patrick Ewing last week. On Thursday, Cooley was asked by reporters if he or his agent have spoken with Georgetown.
“All due respect to the question … this is about Kentucky, this about Providence. We’re all going to be linked to jobs if you do a great job. That’s just speculation. That’s rumors,” Cooley said, via Kyle Tucker of The Athletic.

Providence, which went 21-10 in the regular season before falling to UConn in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament, is the No. 11 seed in the East.
The Friars will take on sixth-seeded Kentucky tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. ET. If their season ends on Friday, we should know rather quickly whether Cooley is headed to D.C. or not.
Other names that have been mentioned in conjunction with Georgetown are Iona head coach Rick Pitino, former Notre Dame coach Mike Brey and Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry, among others.
