Navy Football is set to take on the Memphis Tigers tonight in a primetime matchup on ESPN. The game kicks off at 7:30pm (ET) at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, TN.
The game marks the opening of American Athletic Conference play for the Midshipmen and the ninth all time meeting in football between the two teams. Navy hasn’t won a game against the Tigers in Memphis since 2015 and are coming off of four straight losses in the series.
This will be another tough matchup for Navy as Memphis is already 2-0 on the season with wins against Bethune-Cookman and Arkansas State. The Tigers come into the game as a 14.5 point favorite.
The key to success for Navy tonight will be slowing down the Tigers passing game. Memphis ranks 32nd in passing success rate while Navy’s pass defense ranks outside of the top 100 in the FBS. This is however a veteran group that held up well against Wagner last week.
After a matchup against an elite Notre Dame team week one and a subpar Wagner team week two, this will be the first big test for Navy on the season and a huge chance to show the type of team they can be this season.
