Maryland fans were in for a treat as No. 19 Maryland defeated No. 12 Ohio State in overtime 93-90. The Terrapins gave fans a game they will never forget, as they ended the regular season on a high note.
Maryland closed out the season by winning six of the last eight games. They are the fourth seed in the B1G Tournament and will play on Friday. Let’s look at the victory on Sunday afternoon.
Nathan’s Victory Outlook:
The Terrapins were waiting for March 2nd.
Maryland was ranked eighth in the nation before the January 23rd game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The loss motivated the team, in a way. This game had been circled for weeks, and the Terrapins sought revenge. This team for the tipoff never once backed down, they remained composed, and had the final say in this rivalry for now. Sarah Te-Biasu’s last-second shot sent the Terp crowd a smile on their faces, and a memory that will last for a time.
All Around Effort
At the beginning of the season, there was this preconceived notion that Shyanne Sellers, Allie Kubek, and Bri McDaniel could have a bad game, and the transfers picked up the slack. Sure, each game has given different results; however, in this game, the Terrapins got contributions from everyone participating in the guard play. Many outsiders, and even those close to home (not this writer) believe that the loss of Bri McDaniel took an edge off their guard play. Sellers, Smikle, and Te-Biasu combined for 62 points of the team’s 93 points.
Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments Outlook
Before the 4:30 game for Maryland, the Michigan Wolverines defeated Illinois. Terrapins had complete control of the fourth seed of the Big Ten Tournament. So, they will wait to see who they will face in the tournament’s quarterfinals this Friday. The Lady Terrapins finished with 13 conference wins, with ten wins on the road. Could Maryland host an NCAA tournament? It has been two years since.
Other notes: This was Maryland’s first overtime game at home since Feb. 24, 2008.
