A suspect in an armed robbery just before midnight was apprehended after a high-speed chase, thanks to assistance from a police helicopter, officials said.
Officers observed a vehicle with its lights off at a gas station in the 3900 block of Frederick Avenue around 11:57 p.m. on Dec. 23.
After asking the driver to turn his lights on, the citizen responded that he had just been robbed at gunpoint by the driver of a gray Honda Civic that was speeding away from the location.
Officers began following the vehicle both on the road and via police helicopter, also known as “Foxtrot.”
The trailing patrol cars abandoned the pursuit due to the high speed the suspect was driving, though Foxtrot kept sight of the vehicle.
When the suspect eventually pulled over in a Northwest Baltimore parking lot and ran away, Foxtrot alerted officers on foot to his location, and patrol officers apprehended the suspect.
The suspect was arrested with a loaded handgun, and it was later discovered that he had an open warrant and was driving a stolen vehicle.
The victim of the robbery was not injured, and his property was returned.
