COLLEGE PARK — After suffering the ultimate heartbreak last season, Francis Scott Key girls basketball returned to Xfinity Center and came home with the top prize.
The Eagles avenged last year’s loss to Hammond in the state final, defeating Hereford, 44-39, on Saturday to win the Class 2A state championship. It’s the program’s second title and first since 1997.
FSK was led by senior guard Summer Brooks, who finished with a game-high 14 points. Fellow senior Caroline Kohr added 13 points as the Eagles used a third-quarter run to take control of the game.
