A man allegedly entered Urbana High School on Tuesday and assaulted a staff member there, according to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 11 a.m., a man came into the school through an exterior door and was noticed by a staff member, according to a news release from police. As the staff member escorted him out of the building, the suspect allegedly assaulted the staff member and left campus, the release says.
The staff member did not seek medical attention, and the suspect didn’t harm students or other staff. A school resource officer was immediately contacted and began investigating.
The sheriff’s office increased its presence around the school and in the Urbana area for school dismissal as they searched for the man, said Katie Robine, a spokesperson for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
Police have identified a suspect, who was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, the sheriff’s office said on its Facebook page. Criminal charges are pending.
