It is Maryland’s highest ranking since the end of 2022.
In the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, Maryland men’s soccer earned a top 10 ranking (No. 9), further displaying its ascension from the depths of their historically poor 2023.
The ranking boost from No. 12 comes on the back of a week when the Terps drew Penn State in a game they largely dominated and beat Michigan State in a thrilling comeback victory. It is also Maryland’s highest ranking since the end of 2022.
As far as the rest of the Big Ten, they only trail No. 2 Ohio State, who have an identical conference record but a much stronger nonconference resume.
The Buckeyes have also put together some dominant Big Ten performances, such as their 5-0 thrashing of Penn State and 6-3 victory over Michigan. The Terps and the Buckeyes will meet at Ludwig Field in the final game of the season.
The only other Big Ten team in the poll is No. 25 Wisconsin, who has fallen after the start of conference play and Maryland already beat convincingly, 3-0.
The Terps will look to defend their ranking in their only game this week at Washington.
The Terps have some high-profile conference games against Michigan, UCLA and Ohio State in the season’s final month. They rank second in the Big Ten standings behind Ohio State, who holds the tiebreaker advantage over them.
