Maryland wrestling’s dual against American on Saturday has been moved to South Carroll High School.

South Carroll wrestling has been the premier public school program in the state in recent years, finishing fifth in the final Baltimore Sun wrestling poll in 2024 after going 29-0, winning a fourth straight Carroll County championship and the program’s third straight Class 1A dual state title last season.
South Carroll has produced 11 state wrestling champions over the past three years. A number of the wrestlers who contributed to that total will make a homecoming for Saturday’s dual.
Maryland’s roster features two South Carroll graduates in redshirt freshman Michael Pizzutto and sophomore AJ Rodrigues.
Pizzutto, who finished 13-10 in his redshirt season at Maryland, was a two-time National High School Coaches Association All-American, four-time Carroll County champion and three-time individual state champion during his time at South Carroll.
Rodrigues, the Terps’ primary starter at 165 pounds as the only freshman in the lineup last season, finished his South Carroll career with a 150-4 record, four county championships, three state championships and Carroll County Times Player of the Year honors in football and wrestling.
He wrestled for Maryland at the Big Ten championships last season and finished the year 11-17. So far this season, he is 4-1 wrestling at 157 pounds.
American also features a decorated South Carroll alum in Gage Owen.
Owen, a four-time county champion, two-time state champion and four-time first team All- County selection will also return home Saturday where his name is in the rafters and in the history books following a 125-4 career record. Owen, wrestling this season as a redshirt freshman, finished 10-10 in his debut season with the Eagles.
Saturday’s dual will mark the fourth straight year the schools have met. Maryland has won each matchup, including a 30-7 win in Washington, D.C last season.
Maryland is 2-0 in duals so far this season with wins over Kent State and Bucknell. American is 1-1 in duals so far this season, losing to Michigan State and beating Clarion on Sunday.
