No. 20 Maryland men’s basketball center Derik Queen was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, the conference announced Monday.
Queen was crucial in the Terps’ wins over Nebraska and Iowa, averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds per game last week. On the road against the Huskers, he scored 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and corralled 11 rebounds. Against the Hawkeyes Sunday, Queen scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, while totaling 13 rebounds.
The 6-foot-10 freshman ranks 14th in the Big Ten with 16 points per game, fourth in rebounds per game with 8.8 and third in double-doubles with nine.
