Maryland wrestling finished in the top-25 as a team at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia. Jaxon Smith ended the weekend with a sixth-place finish.
Smith, who became Maryland’s first All-American wrestler since 2019 Friday, defeated No. 14 DJ Parker from Oklahoma, 4-2, in the Round of 12. He then defeated Nebraska’s Silas Allred, 8-1, to secure a top-six finish.
Maryland ended the championships with 18.5 team points, tied for 24th in the team standings. It was both the most points scored and the highest team finish at the NCAAs by the program since 2014.

Derik Queen’s buzzer-beater propelled No. 4-seed Maryland men’s basketball to a second-round NCAA Tournament victory over No. 12-seed Colorado State, 72-71, Sunday. Colin McNamara recapped the action.
