Here’s how former Maryland football players performed in the NFL this past week.
In Week 8 of the NFL season, one former Maryland football player came up clutch again, while a handful were contained from making their usual impact.
Just six days after beating the Los Angeles Chargers on a walk-off field goal, Arizona Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland was up for the challenge again Sunday at the Miami Dolphins.
With Arizona down two with just one second left, Ryland setup on the left hashmark for a 34-yard try. As time expired, Ryland’s kick veered right but had plenty of distance, hitting the back netting for the 28-27 Cardinals win.

The momentous kick brings Arizona to 4-4 this season and gives the Cardinals two straight wins for the first time in more than three years, dating back to when they started the 2021 season by winning seven consecutive games.

Ryland joins Packers kicker Brandon McManus as the only NFL players with multiple walk-off field goals this year.
Ryland’s game-winner might not have even been his best kick this weekend, either. Before the fourth-quarter heroics, Ryland nailed his only other field goal attempt of the game, a career-long 57-yarder.
Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs played a role in Houston’s 23-20 win over the visiting Indianapolis Colts, but the performance came with a scary injury for the 10th-year pass catcher.
Diggs brought in five of his nine targets for 81 yards, including a season-long 49-yard reception, but he went down hard with a noncontact knee injury in the third quarter.
Diggs did not return to the game and missed practice on Monday due to the injury.
After torching the Commanders last season, Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore didn’t break out again against Washington during Sunday’s wild 18-15 loss. Moore finished the game with two catches on four targets for 27 yards.
Activated off injured reserve for the first time this season, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Rakim Jarrett made the most of his opportunity back against the Atlanta Falcons. In a 31-26 loss, Jarrett caught all three of his targets for 58 yards, with each reception going for a Tampa Bay first down.
Sunday was Jarrett’s first game with multiple receptions, and the 58 receiving yards also set a career-high.
