Here’s how former Maryland football players performed in the NFL this past week.
Week 7 of the NFL season has come and gone, and with it, one Maryland football alum came through again for his new team.
Playing under the lights on Monday Night Football, the Arizona Cardinals and kicker Chad Ryland were down one point to the visiting Los Angeles Chargers just after the 2-minute warning.
On the game’s final possession, quarterback Kyler Murray and the Cardinals drove the ball 56 yards down the field, setting up Ryland for his only field goal attempt of the night with just 2 seconds left.
In his first home game with Arizona, Ryland nailed the 32-yard try, sending State Farm Stadium into a frenzy with his second-career walk-off field goal.

Along with Ryland, numerous Maryland football alums contributed to their NFL teams this weekend. But unlike the second-year place kicker, many of those contributing alums were featured in losing efforts by their respective teams.
In a 34-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans tight end Chig Okonkwo had his best game of the season. Okonkwo paced the Titans with a season-high four catches for 50 receiving yards.

Okonkwo’s line included a 26-yard catch-and-run on the first play of Tennessee’s lone touchdown drive. The reception was Okonkwo’s longest catch since Week 13 of last season.
The New York Giants were blown out on Sunday by the Philadelphia Eagles, but not for the performance of cornerback Deonte Banks.
One of New York’s few bright spots in the 28-3 divisional loss, Banks tied his season-high with six tackles, good enough for the second-most stops for any Giants player on Sunday. Four of Banks’ six tackles were solo.
In a two-point loss to the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs was heavily contained by Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander and company.
Diggs was held to five catches on seven targets for just 23 yards, his lowest in a game since the Buffalo Bills’ AFC Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
In a tight loss to the Los Angeles Rams, offensive tackle D.J. Glaze made his fourth straight start for the Las Vegas Raiders and committed a costly fourth-quarter penalty.
Down 20-12 with under three minutes to play, a big tackle on tight end Brock Bowers handed the Raiders a fourth-and-goal from the Los Angeles 4-yard line. Before the play, Glaze was called for a false start, backing the ball up 5 yards to make it fourth-and-9.
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce decided the extra distance was too risky for backup quarterback Gardner Minshew, sending out kicker Daniel Carlson instead to take the 27-yard field goal. Carlson’s kick represented the game’s final three points, as Glaze and the Raiders lost, 20-15.
Defensive end Sam Okuayinonu and the San Francisco 49ers lost too against the Kansas City Chiefs. Okuayinonu posted a career-high three tackles and a tackle for loss.
