Here’s how former Maryland football players performed in the NFL this past week.
Week 10 of the NFL season has come and gone, and with it, three notable former Maryland football players contributed in the same game.
Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, running back Ty Johnson and Indianapolis Colts safety Nick Cross all shared the field in the Bills’ 30-20 win over the Colts.
Jefferson, who spent a year with Buffalo in 2020, made an immediate impact after rejoining the team on Wednesday.
Down by seven points late into the third quarter, Indianapolis went for it on fourth-and-2 from Buffalo’s 20 yard line. On the play, Colts quarterback Joe Flacco dropped back only to be sacked by Jefferson for a loss of 10.
The sack was Jefferson’s first since Week 2, when he was with the Browns.
Cross, a three-time All-Big Ten honorable mention who last played with Maryland in 2021, posted a game-high 12 tackles. The outing was Cross’ second consecutive game with double-digit tackles.
Against Cross’ defense, Johnson was an active target for quarterback Josh Allen in the Bills’ passing game.
Johnson tied a season-high with three catches for 28 total yards. Two of Johnson’s catches came consecutively on Buffalo’s final drive of the first half, setting up kicker Tyler Bass to nail a 47-yarder as the second-quarter clock expired.
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore was contained by New England in a 19-3 Patriots win. Moore finished the game with just three catches on six targets for 24 yards.
Working in a slumping Bears offense, Moore has been held to 35 receiving yards or less in five of his last six games.
