Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu and Breanna Williams have chosen to redshirt the 2024-25 season.
Two No. 18 Maryland women’s basketball players — Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu and Breanna Williams — will redshirt the 2024-25 season, the team announced Friday.
Ozzy-Momodu, a junior who transferred this offseason from Gulf Coast State, decided to redshirt because she is still recovering from an ACL tear she suffered in February.
“Recovering from an ACL injury is a long process. I have unbelievable support from my family, my teammates and my coaches here,” Ozzy-Momodu said in the team’s statement. “This is the best decision to get ready for my future here as a Terp.”
Ozzy-Momodu spent two seasons with Gulf Coast State before transferring to Maryland this year.
“With her knee injury in February, Isi needs more time to focus on her rehab process,” head coach Brenda Frese said in the team’s statement. “That isn’t something we are going to rush and we want her to focus on that process to be ready for next season.”
Williams, a freshman, wasn’t expected to see the court much in 2024-25.
“I have decided with my coaches and family that I am going to take this year and redshirt,” Williams said in the team’s statement. “During this time, I will be working with the coaches to get even stronger and develop my skill set even more as a player. I’ll be back on the court with my teammates soon.”
Williams came to Maryland as a recruit from Montana, where she was a two-time state champion and two-time Montana Gatorade Player of the Year.
“We want Breanna to have a long and phenomenal career here and giving her the extra year will really help set her up for that,” Frese said in the team’s statement.
Both Williams and Ozzy-Momodu are now set to make their Maryland debuts in 2025-26 season.
