A Dunbar High school student is in critical condition after being shot Monday afternoon near the school.
Officers responded around 3:20 p.m. to the 400 block of North Caroline Street in East Baltimore’s Dunbar-Broadway neighborhood and found the victim, a 15-year-old boy, with gunshot wounds, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said by the scene Monday. Medics took the victim to a hospital, Worley said, and nobody else was injured.
“He is listed in critical condition and fighting for his life,” Worley said.
Baltimore Police and Baltimore City School Police were both canvassing the scene Monday afternoon. Officers searched dumpsters and bushes outside Dunbar High School. Baltimore Police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge said police have not identified a suspect and do not know if the suspect was another student.
Baltimore City Schools spokesperson Sherry Christian said while the victim is a Dunbar High student, the shooting scene was closer to the National Academy Foundation. Both schools will not hold class on Tuesday but will be open to offer counseling services, and the shooting did not take place on school property, Christian said.
