6,700-yard Pro Bowler running back Aaron Jones future sparks uncertainty and the Ravens, Chiefs could be the next teams for him. According to reports, the veteran’s future might be up in the air as the running back will become a free agent in March. After two back-to-back fumbles, Jones’ mother believes the Minnesota Vikings benching him was the right move as he already had five fumbles in the 2024 campaign. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the UTEP product was hoping to establish as a ferocious runner for the Vikings after spending his entirety with the Green Bay Packers.
Jones initially signed a four-year deal with the Packers before the team released him this past offseason and replaced him with Josh Jacobs. The Vikings have plenty to address this offseason no matter the outcome of the 2024 season, including the future of Sam Darnold. However, Jones is aging and probably won’t land a long-term deal with a roster considering he went through injuries in the past. He has to figure out his fumbling issues so the chances of him signing with a team on a “prove it” deal are high.
While the veteran has ongoing issues, it shouldn’t be too long before he has to wait in next year’s free-agent market. Jones is still a viable backup in this league and a roster like the Ravens, Chiefs could bring out the best runner in him. He still has plenty of durability as long as he stays healthy and could be a short-yardage chain mover.

Reinforcements for Derrick Henry
The Baltimore Ravens have plenty of talent to make it to the Promise Land with Lamar Jackson leading the offense after signing Derrick Henry to improve their backfield. However, one factor that is stopping them from being unstoppable is depth and that could relatively come back to haunt them. Justice Hill is an efficient backup but the coaching staff won’t be using him to run the ball, instead pass it to get quick short yardage. Meanwhile, Keaton Mitchell is back but he has yet to prove he could be a viable backup so this might force the Ravens’ hand to pick some reinforcements for Henry.
Aaron Jones probably won’t earn a starting role in Baltimore but it could open the opportunity for him to save his career. The Ravens don’t expect him to be perfect since he’ll likely win the backup job but he must be proven to help carry the snaps while Henry is on the sideline resting. Jones is not the same man he was with the Packers but behind a decent offensive line, it could make life easier for him.
The New Chief Duo?
Kareem Hunt was brought back earlier this season after Isiah Pacheco’s injury, out for several weeks. However, even though Pacheco is back, they could have some extra depth at the running back position. Hunt has been dwindling down in production each matchup so this is something to watch if the Chiefs can’t depend on him for the long term. Jones wouldn’t need to be the long-term answer either, but he could keep Pacheco fresh for the postseason.
The Chiefs are in position of another Super Bowl championship but they have several inexperienced players which may stop them from achieving a three-peat. Patrick Mahomes is still one of the greatest quarterbacks in this decade and nobody loves the run more than him. Jones could be useful to spark those flashy plays out of Mahomes.
