Another free agency move as the Jacksonville Jaguars will release cornerback Ronald Darby who now joins others in the market. According to sources, the Jaguars are moving on from the veteran after spending the last year with the Jaguars. Originally selected in the second round of the 20215 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product signed a two-year deal with Jacksonville last offseason after impressing many suitors during his short stint in Baltimore. Darby held most quarterbacks to a completion percentage of 44.2% and a 63.3% passer rating but couldn’t replicate that same energy with the Jaguars so the team is moving on without giving him a chance to redeem himself.
Since trading Christian Kirk and releasing Evan Engram, there has been a cultural shift in the roster, at least for the offense. After signing Jourdan Lewis, it made it more obvious the team would be moving on from the cornerback. Darby will probably have to take a veteran minimum contract on his next deal if he attracts any suitors on the market but he has been playing more special teams on the field. This could increase his chances of finding a new opportunity, but he might not sign with a new team until near the beginning of the 2025 season.
However, his abilities bring experience and nostalgia for any team that is looking to take their team to the next level of capturing a Super Bowl. Darby has Lombardi experience and this is why he could be a solid fit for these three teams.

Next Possible Teams
Baltimore Ravens
This past 2024 campaign, the Baltimore Ravens had one of the worst pass secondaries in the league. However, they made up for it when head coach John Harbaugh made the switch to start Ar’Darius Washington over Marcus Williams. The team saw some improvement but it was too late since most cornerbacks were off chemistry on the football. Baltimore can only depend on veteran Marlon Humphrey who they’re bringing back on a new contract.
Meanwhile, they lost Brandon Stephens who already had an atrocious season so they weren’t missing out on anything. Nate Wiggins is still adjusting to the league so they need a starter and depth either way since they let go of Arthur Maulet as well. Darby probably won’t start but they could get him in the mix to make some exploding plays like he did with them in 2023.
Kansas City Chiefs
For the Chiefs, the team now has enough depth in the cornerback department since losing L’Jarius Sneed in a trade last offseason. However, there’s no such thing as too many cornerbacks in the league. The Chiefs have Jaylen Watson and Trent McDuffie as two solid starters but they could use a veteran assist from Darby to back up one of them since Kristian Fulton is now in the fold.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers secondary unit will look completely different next season. The team made several changes as Donte Jackson is the replacement for Fulton and Tarheeb Still is the current starter for the Chargers. With that, Still isn’t ready for full-time duties so Darby could fill the spot to increase the competition in the secondary department.
