A trio of teens were charged and subsequently released after being caught driving a stolen vehicle, police said.
The three boys — a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds — were in a vehicle in the 3000 block of Thorndale Avenue on Feb. 18 when officers noticed the vehicle was missing a front license plate.
As officers approached, the three attempted to flee on foot, though officers later caught them.
Police said they then learned the back license plate on the vehicle was taken from another car, and the vehicle was taken in an armed carjacking on Feb. 6 at Sinai Hospital. The trio are linked to another attempted carjacking at Sinai Hospital earlier that day as well, investigators said.
The 16-year-old and one of the 17-year-olds were taken for review by the Department of Juvenile Services. Both have criminal records, including robberies and a handgun violation but were released to their guardians. The other 17-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and later released to a guardian.
Additional charges against the three are pending, police said.
