Two local leaders within the NAACP were suspended by the national president.
Kobi Little, who has served as President of the state and local branches of the NAACP, and Treasurer Joshua Harris, who has served as state treasurer, were both suspended.
A letter sent to community leaders this week said National President Derrick Johnson ordered the suspensions based on recent complaints, however, it wasn’t specific about the nature of those complaints.
Maryland’s new acting President, Faith Blackburne-Proctor, calls the news “unsettling and disruptive” and plans to lead the state organization “until this matter is resolved.”
Members have recently complained that minutes and treasury reports from the Baltimore branch haven’t been produced in more than a year.
Last October, a fire torched the NAACP office in Baltimore. Members say it has yet to be restored.
