In a surprising twist, the Arizona Cardinals might be available to trade quarterback Kyler Murray this offseason as the NFL draft is coming next month. At least one report believes the Cardinals will trade Murray despite the team signing him to a massive five-year deal in 2022, but it’s not out of the question if it does happen. Originally selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Texas A&M and Oklahoma product became one of the most promising signal-callers for the franchise, setting records in his rookie year and earning two consecutive Pro Bowls back to back in the following seasons. Since signing his blockbuster deal, the quarterback hasn’t been living up to expectations for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, battling injuries and hasn’t been able to stay healthy.
The Cardinals have been trying to build around Murray to get some efficiency out of him after drafting Marvin Harrison Jr. in last year’s draft. This wasn’t the only move the Cardinals made in an attempt to improve its offense, but tight Trey McBride is turning into one of the most promising tight ends in the league. There were discussions in 2023 that the team could bench Murray in 2023. If they don’t see any improvement after this upcoming season, the Cardinals will likely trade him, but they may want to do it sooner rather than later.

Potential Next Teams
Carolina Panthers
Head Coach Dave Canales finally has trust in quarterback Bryce Young after benching him in just games last season. Andy Dalton took over for a couple of matchups, but it didn’t last long due to a car accident, and Young came back with greater promise. Wide receivers Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker brought the best out of him at the end of the 2024 campaign, but it was too late since they were out of postseason contention. It looks like sunshine and rainbows, but if they can’t back up what they did last year, the head coach will not be hesitant to bench Young again.
Dalton is nothing more than a bridge quarterback. He’ll win a few games, but he isn’t getting this team to a wild-card. Meanwhile, a guy like Murray could help lead this team in the right direction. It’s hard to imagine the Cardinals would, considering the rivalry between the two. However, anything is possible with the right deal.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the quarterback situation in New Orleans isn’t getting better, as most fans are furious that Derek Carr is returning. Spencer Rattler might have had his chance last season since Carr went down with an injury, but he didn’t live up to expectations. To no surprise, he isn’t ready for full-time duties. Kyler Murray would easily fit into Kellen Moore’s offense to potentially rebuild a new regime.
General Manager Mickey Loomis will have to swallow his pride to let Moore be Moore. If that happens, the Saints could trade for a quarterback like Murray.
Baltimore Ravens
No one is taking two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson’s job as long as he stays healthy and remains elite. Surprisingly, the team did sign Cooper Rush to give them some solid backup in case Jackson goes down. Murray might not win the job, but maybe this offense could fit him into this offense like they did with Taysom Hill in New Orleans, but as a running back.
