The Ravens’ offense manipulated — then crushed — the Bills
Jonas Shaffer, The Baltimore Banner
In previous meetings, Buffalo’s nickel-heavy defensive schemes had flustered Jackson and the Ravens’ offense, even some of former coordinator Greg Roman’s best rushing attacks. But on Sunday, the Bills came to Baltimore compromised — All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano, starting linebacker Terrel Bernard and slot cornerback Taron Johnson, all key run defenders, were sidelined by injury — and left confounded.
Against Buffalo’s base personnel, the Ravens rolled up 7.1 yards per play and recorded a stellar 53.3% success rate. Against nickel and dime personnel, they averaged a stellar 8.4 yards per play and posted a still-impressive 44.2% success rate. The Ravens gave Buffalo’s defense nowhere to hide and, after taking and building an early lead, few paths of escape.
Ravens set early tone in beatdown of Bills, show what they’re capable of going forward
Jeff Zrebiec, The Athletic
This was the Ravens at their best in all three phases, displaying the type of form that, if maintained, makes them a significant threat to be playing for a Lombardi Trophy. They racked up 427 total yards of offense, 271 coming on the ground, including 199 by Henry, who had a rushing and receiving touchdown. Baltimore scored touchdowns on its first three possessions, persevered through a lull late in the second quarter that extended into the third, and then dropped the hammer on the Bills with two consecutive touchdown drives spanning the third and fourth quarters.
Defensively, the Ravens constantly harassed Josh Allen, who perhaps was playing the quarterback position better than anyone in football over the first three weeks, until Bills coach Sean McDermott waved the white flag and pulled Allen with his team trailing 35-10 and just over seven minutes remaining. The Bills had a glimmer of hope when they cut the Ravens’ lead to 21-10 early in the third quarter, but Kyle Van Noy’s strip-sack of Allen on a Buffalo trick play all but extinguished it.
Derrick Henry is rolling and the Ravens’ running identity is back in a big way
Stephen Whyno, The Associated Press
Who better to lead that charge than Henry, the 247-pounder signed away from Tennessee in free agency to give Jackson a dependable runner. While Baltimore’s first two games brought a couple of touchdowns and mixed results, the past two have shown the good stuff that can happen when Henry has the ball in his hands.
The 30-year-old followed up his 151-yard, two-touchdown performance at Dallas with 199 yards on the ground against Buffalo. He also caught the fourth TD pass of his NFL career and first since 2019 and looks to be fitting in seamlessly in Baltimore’s offense.
Ravens’ Harbaugh confident Mark Andrews will break out of slump
Jamison Hensley, ESPN
Andrews, 29, has been Lamar Jackson’s favorite target over the previous six seasons. But, though four games in 2024, Andrews has six catches for 65 yards, which ranks 30th among NFL tight ends and sixth on the Ravens.
Last week, Andrews emphasized patience, saying, “My time will come.”
The primary reason for Andrews’ drop in productivity has been Baltimore going to a run-heavy offense lately with running back Derrick Henry. The Ravens have thrown the ball 34 times the past two weeks, which ranks only behind the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions over that span.
