The Baltimore Beatdown staff react to the Baltimore Ravens trading for Los Angeles Rams cornerback Tre’Davious White.
According to multiple reports, the Baltimore Ravens have traded for cornerback Tre’Davious White. Below are the reactions from the staff here at Baltimore Beatdown.
Not the move Ravens fans were hoping for and it will be met with apprehension when compared to other moves made in the AFC North. Even without comparison, this one isn’t a significant move.
White, a star first-rounder in 2017 for the Buffalo Bills had an immediate impact, becoming runner-up for 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He had an excellent start to his career through 2020, snaring 15 interceptions, 54 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a touchdown. In that time he was a two-time All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler, but suffered a torn ACL in 2021 and hasn’t returned to shutdown status. Since then, he’s played 14 games in three seasons, hampered by injuries which includes a torn Achilles in Oct. 2023.
In 2024, Tre’Davious White has graded as the No. 110 (out of 117) cornerback by PFF in coverage grade. He’s allowed nine receptions on 13 targets for 151 yards and four touchdowns for a 147.8 quarterback rating against.
The trade itself is good, as the Ravens sent next to nothing to acquire White and have the upside of a former star and adequate depth player to their struggling secondary.
Overall, purely talking trade value, it’s good. But, when the expectations were set so high for what should be an all-in team, this one feels lackluster. — Kyle Phoenix
Pundits and fans of the team have been clamoring for the Ravens to seek and secure help for their secondary which has been severely underwhelming this year although it is coming off its second-best game of the season. White brings a wealth of starting experience, proven pedigree and playmaking ability to a cornerback depth chart lacking both traits outside of Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Stephens and nickel Arthur Maulet. It ensures that the Ravens won’t have to turn to the likes of third-year pro Jalyn Armour-Davis in the event of multiple injuries or an illness as was the case in Cleveland two weeks ago when they got carved up and upset by a Jameis Winston-led Browns team that only had one win coming into that game. While White has struggled with injuries as of late over the past few years of his career, he is still an immediate upgrade over the depth they have behind Humphrey, Stephens and rookie Nate Wiggins on the outside. Would I have liked them to trade for another pass rusher whether interior or on the edge, to get a player of White’s ability at the fleece of a price he did is another great value move by general manager Eric DeCosta.— Joshua Reed
You can never have too many corners, especially with one of the worst pass defenses in the league. This is a bit unexpected for a Ravens team that was thought to be focusing on pass rushers at the deadline, but White has a proven pedigree both outside and in the slot. He’ll give Zach Orr more options on the back end with fewer three-safety sets.
Importantly, it’s unbelievably cheap, with EDC flipping a 2026 7th round pick for White and a 2027 7th-rounder. Baltimore still has ammo for a pass rusher. — Nikhil Mehta
I could take it or leave it. The secondary has indeed struggled this season, but a lack of talent hasn’t been the issue. White was once a talented play but injuries slowed down his career tremendously the last couple of seasons. At the end of the day, it’s an acquisition costing nothing in an area of struggle. He could come in and revive his career and play excellent football and take snaps from Brandon Stephens who’s struggled this year to make plays but has had tight coverage. Or he could come in, struggle and not take many snaps when it matters most.
As long as White doesn’t cut into Nate Wiggins snaps, it’s a no-risk move for a position group that the great Ozzie Newsome once said you could never have too many of. Now go get a pass rusher. — Zach Canter
