From blowout to near absolution, the Ravens clung on to win against the Dallas Cowboys for their first victory of the season.
The Ravens went from blowing out the Dallas Cowboys 28-6 to a nailbiter finish as they allowed the cowboys to rattle off three touchdowns. In the end, the Ravens won, 28-25, but the ending lef
It was 28-6, and the Ravens were steamrolling. Running back Derrick Henry had obliterated the Dallas Cowboys defense and it was an easy march to victory. Then, Justin Tucker missed a 48-yard field goal. The Cowboys marched 64 yards in six plays for a touchdown.
28-12
That’s all well and good. No issue, it’s still a 16-point game.
17-B.Aubrey kicks onside 9 yards from DAL 35 to DAL 44, impetus ends at DAL 44. RECOVERED by DAL-29-C.Goodwin.
Okay. Terrible. This has the makings of a detrimental issue. But now the Ravens can show they can overcome a mistake or two.
Seven plays, 56 yards and the Cowboys found the endzone again.
28-18
Good god, don’t do this again. Okay, at least Flowers recovered the ball this time. They’re in Cowboys territory. Just salt it away.
Three plays, seven yards and they’re punting it away. At least Jordan Stout has them 91-yards deep in their territory.
11 plays, 91 yards and a third touchdown is scored.
28-25
They can’t do it. They cannot help themselves. They completely dematerialize in the fourth quarter and now they’re a 3rd down from utter failure.
(2:36) (Shotgun) 8-L.Jackson pass short right to 4-Z.Flowers to BLT 34 for 9 yards (7-T.Diggs).
It’s a miracle they won. It’s a shameful, embarrassing win. And while that is superior to a loss, this just is their modus operandi until they can show capable of scoring in the fourth quarter, or the third quarter as a whole.— Kyle Phoenix
After being in firm control of this game for the first three quarters, the Ravens nearly let another victory and double-digit lead slip through their fingers but Lamar Jackson wouldn’t let them. Despite massive late gaffes by the defense and special teams that let the Cowboys back in the game, he ensured that the last person to touch the ball was him by making a clutch throw on third down late and picking up the first down to ice game with his legs. The Ravens still have a lot to work on and address to ensure they can keep and continue building on big leads but they showed the formula of how to get up on and shut down opposing teams. They found a way to finish and now they need find a way to play that way for all four quarters. Their first win nearly looked like the same script from their previous two defeats but the reigning MVP came to the rescue on a day where Derick Henry ran roughshod and helped them establish the huge lead in the first place. — Joshua Reed
The Ravens get the win, but the fans and coaches still shouldn’t feel too thrilled about how it ended. The Ravens looked like they were in route to an easy victory from the jump. Just like some of their signature 2023 performances, Baltimore looked dominant through three quarters. However, the Cowboys reeled off 19 unanswered 4th quarter points to make it a game. The pass rush and coverage that looked dominant in the first half completely collapsed down the stretch. On a side note, the referees in the last two games look like they’ve made a clear effort to keep the Raiders and Cowboys in the game. Multiple calls were made late that went against Baltimore and looked extremely questionable. There were a lot of positives to take away from this one, but the Ravens NEED to finish games if they want any modicum of success this year. — Stephen Bopst
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens walked into AT&T stadium and handled it. The first 0-2 start of his career, Jackson kept things simple. With a ton of talk about the offensive line this week, Harbaugh didn’t make any changes but made things easy, having success running away from the right side and using a ton of play action. Unfortunately, they took their foot off the gas late and didn’t score any points in the 4th quarter, contributing to an almost-collapse. The Ravens defense did their job for three quarter, but let fourth quarter “garbage time” turn into a dramatic close game. There are still major concerns with no drop back game shown and little success running to the right behind Faalele and Mekari. The secondary still needs to tighten things up.
The biggest concern might be Justin Tucker and his 46-yard miss in a domed stadium. His 50-plus yard numbers are starting to bleed into shorter territory. The miss gave Dallas good field position which lead to a late touchdown that then made the game interesting after a recovered onside kick and another touchdown for Dallas. Dallas got way too close, ending it 28-25 after being down 28-6 in the 4th quarter. Something has to change.
The Ravens are still in desperation mode, trying to avoid a 1-3 start against the Bills next week. — Zach Canter
