Ravens Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken assures Ravens fans he’s focused on the Bills, even after reports announced two head coach interviews this week.
On Thursday, reports came in of Baltimore Ravens Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken interviewing for the Jacksonville Jaguars later that day and again on Friday with the Chicago Bears. It stirred frustration from Ravens fan — not necessarily on Monken — but at the system. In the midst of playoffs with the Ravens facing the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional round, the Ravens’ coordinator is essentially being forced to conduct virtual interviews if he has interest in once more taking up the head coach mantle in the NFL.
Coincidentally, reports were in the morning, with his weekly media availability later in the afternoon. Which allowed me to ask Monken about taking those interviews, fans concern and his response to fans.
“Any of the work that I needed to do for any interviews that were going to come up during the season, I did in the offseason,” Monken said. “So, all of my focus last week was on the Steelers, and all of my focus this week is on the Bills. I love the job I have – I really do, and I have a great job here. The way the system is set up is unfortunate, but it is what it is. But I’m excited to play the Bills – that’s where my mind’s at.”
Monken stating the system is unfortunate allowed me a follow-up, where I asked if he would prefer there be a rule change that didn’t have coaches scheming for the biggest stage to be juggling interviews. He doesn’t expect a change on the horizon.
“I don’t think there’s any easy way, or they’d already be doing it,” Monken said. “It is what it is. It’s like trying to figure out things … They’ve been trying to figure it out. There’s no easy way. There’s no easy solution, so it is what it is.”
