Bobby Wagner speaks to the media after re-signing with the team
The Washington Commanders re-signed Bobby Wagner to a 1-year deal worth up to $9.5 million with $8 million guaranteed yesterday. Wagner is a future Hall of Fame linebacker who joined Washington last year, and quickly became a leader on and off the field. This was also a reunion with his former DC from the Seattle Seahawks, Dan Quinn. Wagner said he had tried to join him on other teams, but it hadn’t worked out until he signed with Washington.
Wagner said: “This is where I wanted to be, this is who I wanted to play for.” He was always expected to re-sign here after helping lead the Commanders to the NFC Championship game in the first year of Adam Peters recalibration of Washington’s roster. He worked well another free agent LB, Frankie Luvu, and will be mentoring younger players like Jordan Magee.
Wagner said there’s unfinished business here, and he’s glad he’s returning to a place that wants him. He’ll turn 35 this year, and is looking for another Super Bowl win before he retires. They’re building something here, and QB Jayden Daniels is a big part of that.
