What will the Washington Commanders do this offseason? With many holes on both sides of the ball, the Commanders are unpredictable ahead of next month’s free-agency frenzy.
Washington has the third-most salary cap room in the NFL but it must make several critical decisions about which players to re-sign.
While free agency has yet to begin, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah released his second mock draft of the year. He believes general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn will seek defensive help from one of college football’s top programs.
At No. 29, Jeremiah has the Commanders selecting Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell.
Campbell is one of my favorite players in the class. I believe you’ll see some teams work him out as an edge rusher this spring. When he’s allowed to rush, he flashes elite potential.
That’s high praise from Jeremiah. Campbell has ideal size (6-foot-3, 244), speed, and playmaking ability. While his game has rough edges, his potential is extremely high. Quinn and Peters have both been successful with long, athletic defenders at their previous stops.
A particular name comes to mind when we think of Quinn and a pass-rushing linebacker. Dallas selected Micah Parsons out of Penn State four years ago in the first round. Quinn saw an elite pass rusher in Parsons — and he was correct.
While we’re not saying Campbell is Parsons, you can’t deny the size and athleticism of the two players are similar.
