The Commanders faced a two-score deficit on multiple occasions against the Philadelphia Eagles but found a way to win.
The resiliency of the 2024 Washington Commanders should be studied. The Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 36-33, and with Dan Quinn’s 10th win of the season, it marks the first time in Washington franchise history that a first-time head coach has won ten-plus games with the organization. It is not just Jayden Daniels making franchise history. The Quinn effect is evident, from the coaches to the overall energy on the sideline and post-game, where players such as Terry McLaurin embrace Quinn’s coaching points and messaging throughout the week, and stays with them until the very last whistle.
Coaching is one thing, you have to have some special players, and Jayden Daniels taking over the game for Washington when they “had to have it” in crunch time, he delivered on multiple occasions. His five touchdown passes against the Eagles mark just the second time in franchise history a quarterback has done so, the last being Sonny Jurgensen in 1964, who threw for five touchdowns, too.
Defensively, the Commanders did get help as Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was knocked out of the game in the first quarter with an apparent concussion. However, the battle was only beginning. Backup Kenny Pickett was on the field for two of the Eagles’ three first-quarter touchdowns that gave Philadelphia a 14-0 and then a 21-7 lead, respectively. Nevertheless, the Commanders found a way to fight and claw their way back into the game, and the spark began with a Frankie Luvu interception late in the first quarter that helped reignite the defensive intensity.
