Injury updates
The Washington Commanders are on a six-game winning streak, and they’re latest win came on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild card round of the playoffs. This was Washington’s first playoff win in 19 years, and has kept their magical first season with Adam Peters/Dan Quinn/Jayden Daniels leading the way. The team is now 13-5 on the season, and preparing for a road trip against the NFC’s #1, the Detroit Lions.
Washington held a walkthrough on the practice fields today, and they gave veteran rest days to Jamison Crowder, Zach Ertz, Clelin Ferrell, and Dante Fowler Jr. Ferrell was listed with his weekly knee injury, and Crowder was questionable last week with a hamstring injury, but he played vs the Buccaneers.
Two of Washington’s linebackers didn’t practice today. Dan Quinn told reporters yesterday that rookie Jordan Magee reinjured hamstring on Sunday and wasn’t expected to play against the Lions. Bobby Wagner was listed as a DNP for today with a new ankle injury. The team didn’t run a full practice, and we’ll have to wait until the team gets a full practice in tomorrow to see if today’s designation was precautionary for the veteran that has only missed 11 snaps on defense all year.
Three players were listed as limited in an estimation from today’s walk-thru. Daron Payne suffered a finger injury on Sunday, but he still played 71% of the defensive snaps. Rookie TE Ben Sinnott left the game with a shoulder injury, but was cleared to return. He was only in on 4 offensive snaps vs the Buccaneers.
Kicker injuries always raise red flags, especially after Washington’s kicking carousel this season. Zane Gonzalez kicked the game-winning FG, but was limited today with a hip injury. The Commanders don’t have another kicker on the 53-man roster or the practice squad, but they do have Austin Seibert on injured reserve(hip/groin). He would be eligible to return this week, and Washington could open his 21-day window if there was any real concern with Gonzalez’s hip.
Rookie UDFA TE Colson Yankoff had his 21-day practice window opened last Wednesday, and he was listed as a full participant again to start this week. He’s been on injured reserve since November 9th for a hamstring injury, and he could be activated for Saturday’s game.
