Dylan Crews made his much-anticipated debut against the New York Yankees last night, going 0 for 3 with a walk. Washington fans experienced little else to excite them, though, as the Yankees handled the Nats easily, taking a 5-2 win.
Crews had a chance to affect the outcome on a fly ball in the fourth, but his throw to the plate was wide right, allowing Anthony Volpe to score from third.
Parker struggles
Rookie lefty Mitchell Parker got off to a rocky start, giving up a leadoff homer to Gleyber Torres, and lasted only four innings. Solo homers from Juan Yepez and CJ Abrams weren’t enough to spare Parker from taking his eighth loss of the year, but the outcome might have been different had not several long drives off of Nats’ bats been caught at (or above) the fence.
Look to the future
Crews’ call-up continues the Nats’ focus on the future. For the rest of this season, the team will be taking a long look at the players who might comprise the 2025 roster. It won’t be as much fun as a playoff push, but it’s still of significant interest to serious fans.
