Commanders’ biggest salary-cap hits in 2025: Adam Peters in a tremendous spot
Adam Petters has plenty of resources at his disposal this offseason.
There is an urgent need to maximize quarterback Jayden Daniels’ rookie contract. The more money Peters has, the better Washington’s chances of attracting the right talent will be.
Before then, let’s take a look at Washington’s top 10 biggest 2025 salary-cap hits entering the offseason.
Commanders biggest salary-cap hits in 2025 entering the offseason
- Daron Payne (DT) $26.17 million
- Terry McLaurin (WR) $25.5 million
- Jonathan Allen (DT) $22.47 million
- Marshon Lattimore (CB) $18 million
- Frankie Luvu (LB) $12.54 million
- Sam Cosmi (OL) $10.5 million
- Andrew Wylie (OT) $10.41 million
- Dorance Armstrong Jr. (DE) $10.18 million
- Tyler Biadasz (C) $9.17 million
- Jayden Daniels (QB) $8.57 million
Some on this list are arguably more deserving than others. Peters has big decisions to make at the top order, with the defensive tackle tandem of Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen coming firmly under the microscope.
Cornerback Marshon Lattimore needs to show more, which is likely with a full offseason and more knowledge of the defensive schematics. Andrew Wylie looks like a potential salary-cap-cut candidate. But the fact Daniels has the 10th-highest number in the second year of his rookie contract is a testament to Peters’ financial flexibility before the recruitment period.

10 potential Commanders’ targets at the 2025 Senior Bowl
LSU TE Mason Taylor
The son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, Mason Taylor is an exciting tight end prospect who is projected to go in the second round. Taylor has great size (6-foot-5, 250), bloodlines and he’s only 20 years old. Taylor is an ascending prospect who is unafraid to mix it up in the run game. The Commanders could also get a good scouting report on Taylor from Jayden Daniels, who played with him for two years.
Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr.
Conerly is strictly a tackle prospect who should start immediately at left tackle in the NFL. Conerly opened eyes with his performance against Penn State’s Abdul Carter, who seem believe is the top prospect in this draft. Conerly has had a good week overall, but lost some reps to Mike Green. It was a fun battle to watch. If Conerly is there for the Commanders at No. 29, it would be difficult for them to pass him up.

Five players to watch during the Senior Bowl
Jared Ivey, defensive end, Mississippi
Ivey started his college career at Georgia Tech before transferring to Ole Miss in 2022. He was an instant contributor for the Rebels, finishing ninth in school history with 16 sacks, five pass breakups and three forced fumbles.
At 6-foot-5 and 283 pounds, Ivey is the ideal size for an NFL defensive end. He has long arms that he uses to create separation with offensive linemen and possesses a strong arsenal of pass-rush moves to get in the backfield.
Ivey might be a Day 2 prospect, but he could still be a solid contributor as a rookie.

Cowboys hire Klayton Adams to be new offensive coordinator
The Dallas Cowboys needed to get the staff for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer taken care of and fast, and they are doing so. After bringing on Matt Eberflus to be the new defensive coordinator as well as three other defensive coaches, the Cowboys now have their new offensive coordinator in Klayton Adams, who spent the last two years as the offensive line coach for the Arizona Cardinals.
Dallas should have a lot more creativity in their offense with Schottenheimer as the coach. Adams helped turn around the Cardinals offensive line. The Cowboys desperately need that, and that should help the running game also, which is something else they have to improve.

NFL claims technology can’t spot the ball
“What this technology cannot do is take the place of the human element in determining where forward progress ends,” Fields told Maaddi. “There will always be a human official spotting the ball. Once the ball is spotted, then the line-to-gain technology actually does the measurement itself. So I think it’s probably been a point of confusion around what the technology can and can’t do. There will always be a human element because of the forward progress conversation.”
There’s no confusion about what the technology should do. Or about what the league should be doing to develop it.
How hard can it be to sync up the moment the officials determine that forward progress was stopped with the specific location of the ball when that occurs? It’s the whole purpose of incorporating technology as it relates to the placement of the ball.
We know where the line is. We need to know where the ball is.
And it’s on the league to figure out a way to do it.
The NFL has the money. The NFL has the incentive, even if it won’t admit it. Smarter people than me (that bar is low) can figure out how to do it, if they want to.

The NFL possibly will implement its electronic system for measuring first downs during the 2025 season, source says. That’s not definite at this point. The ball still would be spotted manually by the on-field officials under that system.
