Commanders 2024 position review | Wide receiver
— McLaurin hit the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth consecutive time in his career and finished 15th among all receivers in 2024.
— McLaurin continues to rise up the ranks among the franchise’s best pass-catchers. He’s currently sixth in receiving yards (6,379), fifth in receptions (460) and second in targets (726). He’s 114 yards away from passing Bobby Mitchell for the fifth-most receiving yards by a Washington player.
— Aside from McLaurin, multiple Commanders receivers had some of the best campaigns in their careers in 2024. Zaccheaus had career highs in targets and receptions, and Dyami Brown nearly doubled his production in 2023 with 308 yards on 30 receptions.
Who to add? While it isn’t ideal to have almost all of one position become free agents in March, it does present an opportunity for the Commanders to evaluate the group to see how they can improve after finishing 17th in passing offense. Players like Stefon Diggs, Tee Higgins and Amari Cooper are expected to be at the top of the wide receiver market, but this year’s class is full of players who could fit in well with the Commanders’ offense and would want to catch passes from Jayden Daniels.

Commanders must target Josh Sweat
One of the biggest problems that eventually led to the Washington Commanders’ undoing centered on the trenches. Both sides of the football were found wanting against the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game. Considering the newly crowned Super Bowl champions reside in the same division, rectifying these issues should be among Adam Peters’ biggest priorities in the coming months.
Fortifying the pass rush is crucial. The Commanders trod water with the options available, but they needed a legitimate game-wrecking force capable of turning the tide. Especially considering the strength of Philadelphia’s vaunted offensive line.
This is a deep draft class for defensive linemen and edge rushers, so Peters could go down the college route for reinforcements. The Commanders are also being linked with a bold trade for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett. Whether this amounts to anything more than speculation is debatable.
If the Commanders opt to invest in free agency, Josh Sweat comes into the equation. His performance in the Super Bowl was outstanding, causing constant havoc and making life extremely uncomfortable for All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This won’t go unnoticed by teams looking for edge help this spring.
Acquiring Sweat won’t be cheap. However, the Commanders have more than enough spare financial resources to pull this off.

MEKHI BECTON, OFFENSIVE LINE
Becton not only moved to the Eagles this season, he moved positions. Playing over 1,000 snaps at right guard, his career is fully revitalized, and he might get a ring out of it as well.
The lineman allowed just five sacks this season and 33 total pressures and is expected to fetch around $10 million per year on a four-year deal, according to Spotrac.
Signing Becton this offseason would immediately fill a need left open by the injury suffered by right guard Sam Cosmi, and the potential the guard could move back outside to tackle gives Washington two shots at finding a spot for him to contribute, especially with Andrew Wyie’s contract up after next season.

The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl and that stinks for Cowboys fans
The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl on Sunday night. It stinks.
At no point during Super Bowl LIX did it feel like any other result was possible, to be honest. Philadelphia dominated from start to finish and proved themselves to be absolutely worthy champions, even if we dislike them as division rivals.
Maybe you are pleased with the result as there was a lot of fatigue surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs these days. Whatever the case, the Eagles have now won two titles since 2017 which ties the New York Giants for the most in the NFC East since the Dallas Cowboys last did anything of serious note.
If you care about divisional pride the NFC East continues to boast the most Super Bowl victories of any division across the NFL. They are the only division in which every team has won the Super Bowl, something that became official when Philly won their first seven years ago.
The unfortunate truth is that Philadelphia has established themselves as the roster-building standard in the NFL.
When the Eagles won their first title in 2017 it was one of the most annoying sports results of my and our collective lifetimes. Hoisting the Lombardi was something they had never done so that they finally joined the exclusive club and that we could no longer hold it over them was a bitter pill to swallow.
But this title does not feel that same way. It is annoying, don’t get me wrong. And there will be days where it feels more annoying than it does now. But the Cowboys have done this to themselves. I don’t view this as the Eagles having something incredible over them now because the Cowboys aren’t exactly trying as hard as they are. Philly should be dominating Dallas with how much more aggressive they are as a team. It makes sense that this is the case. Maybe the best way to put it is that I am at logical peace with it and can process it in that way.
You need no reminder that this most recent season from the Dallas Cowboys was one from absolute hell. It started with Jerry Jones saying the team was all in and ended with the Eagles lifting the game’s ultimate prize.
That is poetry in the worst possible way.

Thought after watching this game: they really better improve it.

To his credit, on a night when he was at his worst, Patrick Mahomes talked for 12+ minutes and took every postgame question gracefully. Didn’t shy away from anything. Took the blame for tonight, over and over again.

The Eagles played zone coverage on all but two dropbacks, specifically Cover 4 (59.5%), the 3rd-highest rate by a defense in a game since 2018.
Vic Fangio’s defense held Mahomes to his 2nd-worst performance by EPA in a game in his career (-19.3).#SuperBowlLIX | #FlyEaglesFly

The Eagles did not blitz once across 42 dropbacks in Super Bowl LIX, just the 4th defense to not blitz in a game in the NGS era.
Relying on their front four, the Eagles generated 16 pressures and sacked Mahomes six times, his most in a game in his career.

I asked Eagles team owner Jeffrey Lurie if he expects to lose OC Kellen Moore this week.
“I do,” Lurie said. “Unfortunately, we’re gonna have to wish him the very best with New Orleans.”
“Very smart coach who was able to adapt our offense week to week (as) needed to win games.”

The last team to beat the Philadelphia Eagles is the Washington Commanders.
The best performance by a quarterback against the Eagles this postseason was by Jayden Daniels.
Adam Peters had a great 2024 offseason. The 2025 offseason now truly begins. Pumped to see what he does.

The new kickoff has been a huge win but this element of the rule is dumb. You should be able to declare an onside kick any time you want to. https://t.co/kxme6Z7DJv
