Dan Quinn speaks to the media before practice
The Washington Commanders lost to the New York Jets on Saturday in their preseason opener, but the final score isn’t what the coaches were worried about in that game. Jayden Daniels make his NFL debut and led the team on a touchdown drive that he finished with a 3-yard run. Quinn was asked again about Daniels audibling out of a screen to hit a 42-yard bomb to Dyami Brown. He referenced Top Gun after the game, earning Daniels the Maverick nickname, but Quinn avoided answering if the rookie was allowed to audible that play.
The Commanders are dealing with several injuries, and they picked up a few more on Saturday. Rookies QB Sam Hartman(right shoulder) and LB Jordan Magee(knee) will both be missing practice for at least a few days, and Quinn’s tone when talking about Magee seemed a little more concerned. Andrew Wylie has been missing practice due to an undisclosed “tightness”, but he’ll return today. Rookies LT Brandon Coleman(shoulder/pec) and DT Johnny Newton(feet) are still day-to-day.
