The Washington Commanders new HC answers questions from the media
The NFL world has once again descended on Indianapolis for the annual scouting combine. Coaches, executives, and scouts will be here to interview prospects, and gather information that will influence their decisions in April. The Combine is also a time when teams are gauging interesting from player’s agents, and also testing the waters for potential trades.
This is Dan Quinn’s second scouting combine since being hired by the Washington Commanders as new head coach last year. He led the team to a 12-5 record, and a trip to the NFC Championship game. Quinn returns looking to continue recalibrating the team, and taking them to the next level.

On the NFLPA survey, Dan Quinn told reporters at the combine that the improved grades go “to Josh and Adam. There’s no gap in between what [Harris] says and what he does.”
Quinn said family support, team travel etc “reflect back to Josh and the vision of what it can be.”— John Keim (@john_keim) February 26, 2025

A true competitor … I’m talking about the guy that will do the extra, that will go fight for it. That just behind the rib cage is built different. And when you see it on tape and you want to find out, man, where does that straining and effort and toughness, where does that come from? … That’s the style that we want on our team. And if we can do that and find guys that absolutely have love for their teammates and what they’re doing together, they generally fit here with us fast because the other guys see that, and now they want to help them too. And I think you saw that with some of the veterans on our team. Why did they want to help some of the younger players? They saw how hard they were going for it. And if you add a lot of those groups together and they want to really battle for one another, that’s what the best locker rooms were made of.

Team culture:
Dan Quinn establishing the play style and identity had to be priorities last year when establishing the culture. Safe to say he accomplished that in 2024

Jayden Daniels:
Quinn said one of the things he loves about Jayden Daniels is his constant improvement. Wants to see how much better he can get in Year 2, and he will have a certain set of things they want him to improve upon

Interactions at the Combine:
Quinn said the interactions are what he values from the combine. Wants to hear players’ stories on why they’re successful and get to know them as people better
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) February 26, 2025
You just want to find out somebody’s story and you ask about what made them today, who they are ─ and you hear about their journey, what they’ve overcome, whether it been a hardship, an injury, whatever that looked like, there’s usually some really strong reasons that guys are standing there that might not have been. They were the five star recruit or what have you. But man along the way they got tougher, they got stronger, they had to go through some things. And that’s all of us in life where nothing just goes smoothly. But how do you respond when you get your ass knocked down.
Bobby Wagner:
Dan Quinn brings up Bobby Wagner unprompted – “Bobby Wagner is somewhere getting better today.” Wagner been massive for Washington and is a pending free agent.

Finding untapped potential in free agency:
I asked Dan Quinn how the Commanders can add free agents with untapped potential, like the Eagles did with LB Zack Baun last year.
