Since the USC Trojans head coaching job opened up earlier this week, several big-time names have been thrown into the mix as potential candidates.
One of these names was Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer.
Yesterday, NFL insider Michael Lombardi reported that a source within the league told him that Meyer was interested in the job and is very likely returning to the college game.
That being said, Meyer was very quick to refute these rumors. When asked about the possibility of heading to Southern California to coach the Trojans, the first-year NFL coach shot it down immediately.
“There’s no chance,” he said, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. “I’m here and committed to trying to build this organization.”

Several fans and analysts pointed out that Alabama head coach Nick Saban shared the same message before leaving the Miami Dolphins to join the Crimson Tide back in 2007.

Not saying Urban Meyer to USC is going to happen, but let’s remember Nick Saban once said, “I’m not going to be the Alabama coach.”
Two weeks later he left the Dolphins for Alabama. https://t.co/NjXWWR3VO2

If Urban is annoyed that people don’t believe him, blame Nick Saban. https://t.co/FVi14yLssH

Others referenced several other occasions in which Meyer said one thing and did the other.

Meyer, a former college coaching legend with Ohio State and Florida, has reportedly struggled with his transition to the NFL game. Those struggles were made apparent in Week 1’s 37-21 loss to the Houston Texans.
The Jags will take on the Denver Broncos in a Week 2 matchup on Sunday afternoon.
