The New York Giants enter Week 9 2-6 and in last place in the NFC East. This is a familiar position for the Giants in recent years, with only the Washington Commanders giving them competition for last place.
Washington, on the other hand, is 6-2 and in first place in the division. The Commanders’ fortunes have turned. They have new ownership, a top-flight general manager and front office, a respected coaching staff, and, yes, a stud franchise quarterback.
The Giants appear to be limping toward another disastrous finish that could lead to more changes, especially at quarterback. Daniel Jones continues to struggle after two late turnovers cost New York a chance at a road win in Pittsburgh.
On Sunday, the Giants and Commanders meet for the second time this season. They met in Week 2, with Washington winning 21-18. The Commanders kicked seven field goals in that win despite living in the red zone. Multiple penalties cost Washington points and gave the Giants a chance to win late in the fourth quarter.
The Giants have had the Commanders’ number in recent seasons, so it’s no surprise that Washington opens Week 9 as only 3.5-point favorites despite being the much better team. While this is far from the same Commanders that New York faced under Ron Rivera, it is a bitter division rival who played them close only two months ago.
Here are the early lines ahead of next Sunday’s battle between the NFC East rivals, per BetMGM.
