Longtime former Washington Commanders cornerback Kendall Fuller is again a free agent. The Miami Dolphins released the nine-year veteran on Friday after one season.
Fuller, 30, was Washington’s third-round pick back in the 2016 NFL draft. After two excellent seasons, he was included in the 2018 trade for quarterback Alex Smith. After playing two years for the Chiefs and winning a Super Bowl, Fuller re-signed with the Commanders in March 2020 on a four-year deal.
In his second stint with Washington, Fuller started all but five games in four years, serving as the Commanders’ top cornerback throughout his tenure. While he played the slot during his first two years in Washington, Fuller played mostly outside from 2020-23.
In nine seasons, the former Virginia Tech star has appeared in 128 games with 104 starts. Fuller has recorded 536 tackles, including 15 for loss, 16 interceptions — two returned for touchdowns — and 82 passes defended.
In his one year with the Dolphins, Fuller started all 11 games he played, finishing with 50 tackles and seven passes defended.

The Commanders need another corner in 2025. Marshon Lattimore returns but struggled after a midseason trade from New Orleans. Washington hopes a full, healthy offseason allows Lattimore to return to full strength. Also back is Mike Sainristil. The second-round pick from Michigan had a phenomenal rookie season, proving he was equally adept at playing outside as he was in the slot.
Could the Commanders view Fuller as a perfect short-term and affordable option for next season? It all depends on how much the team believes Fuller has left. He missed six games last season.
