Brain Newberry talked to the media once again this week. The biggest question facing this team coming into the Army game is who will start at quarterback.
Four different players- Xavier Arline, Tai Lavatai, Braxton Woodson, and Blake Horvath- have started at quarterback for the Midshipmen this season. Injuries to Lavatai and Horvath early in the season forced true freshman Woodson into action and caused Newberry to bring Arline back to the qb position from the slotback position.
Arline has been starting down the stretch for Navy but left the game against SMU with an injury and did not return. Newberry said during last week’s press conference that he expects Arline, Lavatai, and Woodson to all be back and healthy for this week’s game with the plan being to evaluate all three in practice and decide on a starter.
This week Newberry eluded to Arline being the starter. Not completely giving it away, all that Newberry said when asked if Arline will be starting is “he should be”.
Newberry also said, rather vaguely, that they’ll be good to go at the receiver position after having multiple players leave the game with injuries two weeks ago against SMU.
Even if Arline is the starter, don’t be surprised to see Lavatai and Woodson mixed in there some as well.
