The Cowboys are having a terrible season
This news was expected, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed today that QB Dak Prescott will have season-ending surgery on his hamstring. He had been seeking other options to avoid surgery, but will now be shut down until next season. Prescott was injured during a Week 9 loss to the Falcons, and didn’t play during the Eagles blowout victory over the Cowboys in Dallas.
Cooper Rush started the game on Sunday, and was shut down by the Eagles offense. Jones also said that Rush might have suffered a neck strain attempting to recover a fumble on the second series. He played 75% of the snaps on offense to backup Trey Lance’s 25%. GM Jones had indicated before the game that they would like to get Lance involved in their offense along with Rush. The Cowboys were blown out 34-6. Cooper Rush completed 13 of 23 for 45 yards and he also took a 10-yard sack. Trey Lance completed 4 of 6 for 21 yards and he also took a 7-yard sack.
The Washington Commanders still have to play the Dallas Cowboys twice this season, and a lot could change before each of those matchups. Their first game happens next week, with Washington coming off of a long rest following Thursday’s big game in Philadelphia. They don’t meet again until Week 18, in a game that could help decide the division, and have playoff implications. Washington is currently 7-3 and sitting a half game back from the 7-2 Eagles.
