Well thanksgiving started early for the No.11 Maryland Women’s Basketball as they craved up the San Francis Red Flash 107-35 Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Terps have won six straight games.
The Keys to Victory!
- A Total Team Effort
The Lady Terps saw 10 players score the ball. Kaylene Smikle (25 points) with her fifth 20-point game performance has been on a tear and has been playing at an amazing pace. Contributions from Allie Kubek as she scored 20 points as well. Mir McLean had her first double-double of the season. Allie Kubek added 20 points and five rebounds. Other standouts were Shyanne Sellers (11 points and nine assists) Bri McDaniel (10 points), Christina Dalce (nine points and 11 rebounds), Mir McLean (10 points and 10 rebounds), Saylor Poffenbarger (seven points and seven rebounds) and Sarah Te-Biasu (seven points and three assists) The Terps as a unit contributed 27 assists and collected 53 rebounds. This game has also marked the 6th game for the Terps’ bench, scoring 20 or more points as well.
2. The Terps played great…for the three quarters
When you look at the score, 107-35…is that embarrassing? No matter who your opponent is, never take your foot off the gas pedal. In the fourth quarter, the terrapins on both sides of the ball were too comfortable. Coach Frese made an interesting choice at the 4:30 mark of the fourth quarter. The starters were back on the floor when the score was 96-25. “This isn’t high school; this is a top ten program. Your practice habits matter, and how the fourth quarter went is no surprise. The team has got to get there,” Coach Frese stated in the post-presser.
3.The game was essentially one-sided from the start
SFU’s stats don’t reflect the score. For exactly 11:24 of the game, they did not score a field goal in the first quarter until the early second quarter. Coming into this game, SFU turns the ball over 23 times a game, and in Sunday’s game, they matched it just fifteen times alone in the first half. Respectfully, the game felt like a video game where you change the CPU settings, and looking at the final stats, everything made sense.
Other Notes:
The Terps won by a margin of 72 points.
Shyanne Sellers reached 500 career rebounds.
Christina Dance reached 700 career rebounds.
Maryland has 65 first-quarter points over its last two games
