The 2024-2025 regular season is down to two games for the Maryland Women’s Basketball team. Maryland has had a much-needed rest after the last four of the five games. No. 19 Maryland hits the road as they face Indiana Thursday evening.
Nathan’s Keys to Victory
Don’t Sleep on Indiana, But Maryland says otherwise
Many believe Indiana is experiencing a challenging season. While they secured 17 victories, their performance in the Big Ten Conference has been lackluster. With seven losses in the conference, some results have left fans puzzled, regardless of whether the games were at home or on the road. However, Indiana aims to gain momentum following their recent victory over No. 22 Michigan State.
While venues in Iowa and Indiana pose difficulties, Maryland has performed better as a road team this season compared to their home games. They did secure a win against Iowa in January. Seeing how this well-rested Maryland squad competes on Thursday night will be intriguing.
Maryland should win on the Glass.
The Terrapins have struggled defensively against three-point shooting this season. Their top shooter, Yarden Garzon, averages nearly 14 points per game and has a three-point shooting percentage of almost 40%. As a team, the Hoosiers have a three-point shooting percentage of 36%.
Conversely, Maryland is expected to dominate the rebounding game, given that the Hoosiers rank among the least effective rebounding teams in the Big Ten Conference. To illustrate, Indiana averages 26 defensive rebounds and only seven offensive rebounds per game.
Maryland controls their own Destiny.
This season has seen its share of highs and lows; even though the Terps have won twenty games, there are specific games that provoke some worries. The Terrapins are in fourth place in the conference and have an upcoming home game against Ohio State on Sunday. They could secure a double seed for the Big Ten Conference Tournament if Maryland remains steadfast.
Saylor Poffenbarger’s game time status?
During the win over Northwestern, Saylor Poffenbarger sustained an ankle injury and is currently listed as Day to Day if she is not available. Head Coach Brenda Frese has nine players at her disposal, and everyone must contribute a well-rounded Terp performance, Victory.
Nathan’s Game Keys
• Minimize fouls.
• Showcase a strong offensive performance.
• The bench is crucial if Saylor is absent.
• Create a post presence early on.
• Drive to the free-throw line.
• Remember to box out!
• Communicate!
Tune in to the game on Peacock at 7:00 p.m. EST.
