The Baltimore Orioles AAA affiliate, the Norfolk Tides, lost 4 out of 6 games against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimps this week. They dropped the first three, before winning two and managing to break their 10-game losing streak. On April 21st, they looked to split the series, but fell short after the Jumbo Shrimps jumped on them early in game six and ended up beating the Tides 8-4.
The Tides did have some highlights during the series, such as Coby Mayo, who hit 2 home runs on Saturday, driving in 6 runs overall. Heston Kjerstad also hit two home runs in one game on Friday, with one coming off the bat at 102.7 MPH.
The outfield showed off their arms, with multiple runners being thrown out by players such as Kyle Stowers and Peyton Burdick. Burdick made a diving catch in left field Thursday and threw out the runner from his knees.
Cade Povich provided a stellar start on Friday night, striking out nine through five scoreless innings pitched for the Tides streak-breaking win. Povich continues to dominate as his season in AAA goes on. To date, he’s pitched 21 innings with an ERA of 0.83.
Although the series didn’t go the Tides’ way, their aggressive arms and strong pitching starts proved they can bounce back from this series and continue to be worthy competitors wherever they go. The Tides take on the Gwinnett Stripers this Tuesday, April 23rd at home.
