The Commanders once again played a nail-biter as Zane Gonzalez made a 37-yard field goal as time expired giving the Commanders a 23-20 playoff win at Tampa Bay.
Here are some of the quick facts from the Commanders’ 13th win of the season:
- Washington had gone 20-23 on 4th downs this season. They went 3-5 tonight, including a touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin.
- Washington’s touchdown drive of 92 yards in the second quarter was the longest by an NFL rookie quarterback in the playoffs since Jim Everett in 1986.
- The Bucs entered the game as the only team ranked in the Top five in rushing offense, passing offense, total offense, and scoring offense. But tonight, the Commanders held the Bucs to only 20 points.
- Dyami Brown caught all five targets for five receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown.
- Washington won its first playoff game since the 2005 season, defeating the Bucs 17-10 in Tampa Bay.
- Terry McLaurin caught seven passes for 89 yards, including his first career playoff touchdown.
- With tonight’s win, Jayden Daniels becomes the fourth rookie quarterback to win an NFL road playoff game.
- Jayden Daniels completed 24 of 35 passes for 268 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also carried the ball 13 times for 36 yards, including a HUGE first down, setting the stage for Zane Gonzalez’s winning field goal.
- Zane Gonzalez was 3 for 3 in his field goal attempts. He did doink the winning 37-yarder, but he also drilled a 52-yarder down the middle. It was his longest field goal since 2021.
- Bobby Wagner has played in 17 career playoff games, and tonight, his recovery of Baker Mayfield’s fumble was his first career playoff fumble recovery.
- Washington had only two tackles for a loss. Both came from players Adam Peters brought here this season: DT Johnny Newton (draft) and DE Jalyn Holmes (released by Jets).
