The 2025 NFL combine begins this week, which means we are inching closer to free agency. In just over two weeks, NFL teams can start negotiating with players from other teams and agree to terms.
The Washington Commanders will have another busy offseason. One year ago, new general manager Adam Peters signed numerous unrestricted free agents, many to one-year deals, as he looked to rebuild a roster that had struggled to draft good, young players. The goal was to allow Washington to compete, raising the floor of the 2024 team without impacting the franchise’s long-term future.
Mission accomplished. Almost every free agent Peters signed worked out well for the Commanders. Washington surprised everyone by going 12-5 and making it to the NFC championship game. Some of those free agents had prominent roles; others delivered when called upon. Now, Peters must decide which of those free agents to retain while looking to capitalize on Washington’s championship window with quarterback Jayden Daniels on a rookie contract.
Before free agency begins in full, we rank the team’s seven biggest positions of need.
