Washington welcomes the newest member of the family, Josh Conerly Jr, after making him the 29th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Draft day is finally here and Washington has made their pick! The Commanders selected Oregon OT Josh Conerly with the 29th overall pick. Washington continue to beef up their offensive line after trading for Texans LT Laremy Tunsil last month. He will have a 4-year, $15,681,094 which includes a $8,044,432 signing bonus. He will have a $2,851,108 cap hit for 2025.
Conerly joins a Washington Commanders team that went to the NFC Championship game in the first year of the Adam Peters/Dan Quinn/Jayden Daniels era. The Commanders picked Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft, and he was nothing short of spectacular in his rookie season. He will be competing with last year’s starting LT Brandon Coleman for the starting RT tackle spot. Andrew Wylie started at RT last season, but is expected to either be a backup tackle or compete at guard.

What the Washington Commanders are getting:
Conerly is a lengthy, athletic blocker who may need to spend a year in an NFL weight room before earning a starting job. He played very well for the best regular-season team in the country, helping Oregon to an undefeated record ahead of the College Football Playoff. At 6’5 and 311 pounds, he possesses ideal length and has an NFL-ready frame just waiting to be reinforced even further. The natural athleticism and movement skills are there to keep up with the speed of the pro game, but Conerly will take his game to another level when he’s able to match the physicality that will be lined up across from him every Sunday.
Strengths
- Has a surprising snatch trap in his tool box
- Explodes into down blocks with significant force
- Smooth pass sets to get to landmarks on time consistently
- Runs feet well to fight and strain when reaching against inside alignments
- Has shown rapid growth, going from reserve to All-American in two seasons
Weaknesses
- Lacks ideal girth through his midsection and upper body
- Must hit the weightroom to reinforce his anchor that will struggle against NFL power
- Inconsistent punch placement in pass pro
- Does not show a natural retaliatory move to regroup once beaten
