Tigers win! For the first time since week 2 the Towson Tigers have won a football game. The Tigers taking down the William & Mary Tribe by a final score of 34-27 at Unitas Stadium. Coming off the bye week it was important for Towson to find a way to get a big win, and did just that.
The Tigers got off to a good start with a 49 yard field goal from Keegan Vaughn. They followed that with a 12 yard touchdown pass from Sean Brown to John Dunmore. Brown has filled in nicely for Carlos Davis when he’s had some struggles. In the second the Tribs got a field goal from Eric Bernstein and a Bronson Yoder touchdown run. Towson dominated in the 3rd quarter with another Sean Brown touchdown pass to John Dunmore for 16 yards out. The Tigers got a 78 yard fumble recovery touchdown from Branson Peters and capped it with a Tyrell Greene Jr touchdown. William & Mary would not go away as the score 2 times with a Darius Wilson touchdown pass and a Malachi Imoh rushing score.
The Tigers offense came to play and played well in all 3 facets. Sean Brown finished the day with 185 yards passing on 24 attempts completing 17 of them. Brown threw 2 touchdowns and an INT in the day. Tyrell Green Jr went for over 130 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. John Dunmore had a very productive day in the passing game with 2 touchdowns. Zay Perkins led the team in receiving yards.
The Tribe offense struggled for a decent amount during the game as Darius Wilson only threw for 209 on 25 attempts, while completing 12 of them. Backup Tyler Hughes came in and threw a touchdown. Bronson Yoder and Malachi Imoh both had rushing touchdowns for the Tribe. Hollis Mathis led the Tribe in receiving yards while Darius Wilson had their line touchdown reception.
Defensively the Tigers forced 3 turnovers, scored a defensive touchdown and had 2 sacks. Will Middleton led them in total tackles while he and CJ McClendon both chipped in sacks. Branson Peters had the fumble recovery touchdown for the Tigers. Kam Snell had the lone INT for the defense.
For William & Mary their defense struggled mightily. Quinn Osborne led them with 7 tackles on the day. Johnathan Hammond added a sack and Jalen Jones had the lone INT on the day for them.
Looking ahead to Norfolk State
The Tigers hit the road again for a matchup with Norfolk State. The Spartans barely beat the Tigers at Unitas Stadium last year 21-14. The Spartans have had a rough go with a 2-5 record. They own wins over VMI and Virginia State.
Jalen Daniels is their man under center, a transfer from Garden City Community College in Kansas. Kevon King is their main running back with almost 500 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. Jalen Daniels can also use his legs and has 2 touchdowns on the year. They have a couple of talented wide receivers in Jacquez Jones, Kam’Ryn Thomas and Tavian Morris. All of them have at least 1 touchdown on the year.
Defensively, AJ Richardson leads their team with total tackles with 52. Dylan Long and Terron Mallory both have 2 INT’s on the year. Marcus Maubey had 2 sacks on the year. There’s a lot of talent back there but they need to be more consistent to take pressure off the offense. The Tigers will look to keep the ball rolling with another win. GO TIGERS.
