For years, every NFL offseason began with the same question for the Washington Commanders: Who would play quarterback the following season?
Not anymore.
With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Commanders selected Jayden Daniels. Daniels would have the greatest rookie season for a quarterback in NFL history, breaking numerous team and league records.
It wasn’t just the numbers, though. Daniels led his team to a 12-5 record and two road playoff wins before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles in the NFC championship. He is already a legit superstar. Daniels wasn’t along for the ride, he put the team on his shoulders all season.
Now that the most important position on the field is solved, what is Washington’s biggest offseason need?
Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team recently listed his thoughts on every NFL team’s most significant need this offseason.
Here’s what Mosher said about the Commanders:
Biggest Need: Cornerback
The Washington Commanders traded for Marshon Lattimore midseason, but that move did not work. The veteran cornerback looked slow and became a frequent target for opposing quarterbacks.
Maybe he’ll be better in 2025, but adding another viable option on the outside is a must for this front office.
Cornerback is a need, for sure. The biggest need? Not so sure about that. The Commanders need an impact edge rusher who can also set the edge against the run, at least two new starters on the offensive line, and a viable No. 2 receiver opposite Terry McLaurin.
It will be interesting to watch how general manager Adam Peters prioritizes Washington’s own free agents before leaguewide free agency opens next month.
